ajax POST request being sent as GET

I am sending an ajax POST request like this:

$.ajax({
    url: url,
    method: 'POST',
    dataType: "json",
    data: {
        recipe: recpie
    }
})

But the request is being sent as a GET:

Request URL: http://127.0.0.1/api/update_measbox?recipe=MALBHDPOR
Request Method: GET
Status Code:200 OK
Remote Address:127.0.0.1:80

Any ideas as to why this is happening and how I can get it sent it as a POST?
