Thanks Russ. I don't mean to answer my own question, but this is what I found to date:
There is a website: http://django-nonrel.org I found that seems to be pretty recent even though for some reason it has a copyright of 2011 There's also an installation guide at: https://media.readthedocs.org/pdf/djangoappengine/latest/djangoappengine.pdf that has a date of May 19, 2014, pretty recent.
