Or you can share the one terminal by stopping the server to run other commands, then do runserver again to test them.
The startup message should have told you how to stop (exit, kill) the server. On linux it's control-C. That may work elsewhere too. (Just for completeness, in an emacx shell window, it's two control-Cs in a row.)
