Try using django-haystack. It's a nice Django app, very easy to use, and with good documentation: http://django-haystack.readthedocs.org/en/latest/. It provides a QuerySet like API for several search engine backends. It works with Solr, ElasticSearch, Whoosh, Xapian, etc.
