Glad and sad that you are going through this. Sad in that the process seems too complicated. Glad in that I have failed miserably in trying to get virtualenv, vagrant, and other packages to install both in Windows and in Xubunto. I have run python27 and 33 without problems but even in the 27 directory the python command is not recognized in the terminal.
