I like your forum design.

I only have reservations because I've seen the same thing happen in a
number of projects -- splitting and distributing information across too
many sites. Django has a central Web site, with comment mechanism, and
Django-related RSS aggregation, and a number of (pretty active) Google
Groups. Plus, there's the ever-helpful ICQ channel (which I found
*very* useful when I got started).

In how many places should a Django newbie be expected to look for
solutions to his problems and answers for his questions?

Or do the forums serve a niche that the groups and other channels don't
and which I didn't recognize in my cursory glance at the forum site?
