A linux VPS, such as from linode.com would certainly allow this (we pay abotu $20/mo for ours).
As to shared hosts, it wouldn't hurt to ask at WebFaction. If I were them, I'd want to examine the code and do the compiling, and I'd probably want to charge for that code review (or if it's a standard open source tool they might be more inclined to just build and install it for you).
