But that strikes me as a bad design. Normally in MVC apps you have your controller to fetch all data before forwarded to the view. By doing it the way I (tried to) explain you are able to use your portlet in whatever context and by using template inheritance you can make all portlet appear the base except base content... Hmm well maybe its just me..
