Indeed, resizing the window wakes it back up. Many thanks for the tip--lets me 
keep using FF on the Mac!

I've experienced a similar problem to the one you describe; I have a
model that almost always exhibits the "dead window" behaviour when
edited in the Django admin. However, it's not limited to just Django
and I think it's probably a renderer-error in Firefox (possibly related
to Javascript playing with the page's content). I used to eventually
kill Firefox to solve the problem too, until--by accident--I tried
resizing the window which caused it to re-awaken.

Perhaps this trick may work for you too...
