Try like this if you are using ubuntu

~$ python
Python 2.7.3 (default, Apr 20 2012, 22:44:07)
[GCC 4.6.3] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import django
>>> django.get_version()
'1.3.1'

or

>>> django.VERSION
(1, 3, 1, 'final', 0)
>>>

Not yet getting please check your installation of Django
