Update:

I'm now using requestcontext in my view.

my new view is
from django.http import HttpResponse
from django.shortcuts import render_to_response
from django.template.loader import get_template
from django.template import RequestContext

def homepage(request):
    return render_to_response ('index.html',
 
context_instance=RequestContext(request))

But it's still not working.
