It sounds like one of those url patterns isn't a tuple, but a string or something like that.
In the last part of the traceback that you get, could you click open that "local vars" triangle button? It might show you what 'pattern' or 'self.url_patterns' is. Perhaps that helps you spot what's wrong?
Alternatively, post your entire urls.py.
