Hey Pulkit, I've had this error a couple of times too. Check the location of your MySQL socket, maybe it's different to '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock'. You can do it checking /etc/mysql/my.cnf. After that, just update DATABASE_HOST in settings.py and add the path to the new socket.
PS: you can also use "python manage.py dbshell" to test your DB access.
