I know that this is a couple months old, but the documentation does seem to be incorrect. I am using 1.2.4, and am on the correct tutorial page (http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.2/intro/tutorial04/), and the import statement in the section "Use generic views: Less code is better" does indeed state "from django.views.generic import DetailView, ListView", with a description of the DetailView and ListView classes below it.
