Are there any formal plans to improve the admin theme? Not at present. We've
just hit feature freeze for 1.3, so even if there were plans, they wouldn't be
included in 1.3.
If you've got suggestions, we're happy to hear them; however, just proposing
what you'd like to see won't get the job done -- we need someone to actually
implement those changes.
On the subject of which -- the Django core has very strong server-side team,
but we aren't as strong when it comes to front-end talent. This is something
that it would be good to address. Presenting a strong redesign proposal for the
admin would be a great way to demonstrate design skill if you (or anyone else)
is interested in becoming a core team member to fill this skill shortage.
