I noticed that easy_install left south as an egg. Can I just unzip that or is there some ezsetup I have to use to expose the files so I can edit that line. I have not needed to "look under the hood" of easy_install's before, so this is probably a RTFM question, but...
Sorry to be so "needy" but this system is in production and I'm nervous about that which I have not done before.
