Ah - good to know django-facebookconnect isn't the only app doing that correctly, thanks for that. I did eventually get things worked out with django-facebookconnect - you can get into some weird situations with multiple cookies/sessions, multiple logins, multiple linkages, trying to log into one account when a previous cookie hasn't been deleted, etc. ... the kind of stuff you're likely to hit during development but that users aren't.
