Which version of grappelli are you using? Currently the trunk requires django 1.2 but I think there's a branch that still works with 1.1.
Having said that, we're using grappelli (a slightly older revision) with Django 1.1 in a live project and it works just fine. Do you notice any javascript errors when using the wizard?
