And if you really need per-object permissions, you can use the new
GenericRelations recently checked in by Jacob. Ian has a nice post
about it here

which includes all the relevant links.

I was able to get a per-object permissions system going very quickly
using it, for an internal project that needs it right now, and can't
wait for the official way of doing it to be finished.
