The implementation is pretty much finished and committed. I have most of the docs written, but I still need to review and commit them. Someone has already written an LDAP backend and posted it on the wiki. http://code.djangoproject.com/wiki/MultipleAuthBackends. Watch out though because most of that page is out of date (yet another thing to fix on my todo list.) If you have specific questions I'd be glad to answer them.
