And actually, that seemed like a good point so I tried taking out the TLS patch (by making mysql.DatabaseWrapper inherit from object instead of threading.local) and that seems to fix the problem! I don't understand why that would be, especially because Django's ModPythonHandler explicitly calls db.db.close(). Weird.
