Thanks Chris. I think that adding a warning (`warnings.warn(...)`) about
cyclic references would be an improvement. We should probably add a custom
subclass of `UserWarning`, e.g. `CyclicExceptionReferenceWarning`, for
easy ignoring, if needed.
