We had private exchanges to sort this out. The summary is that if you don't need the get_language_info_list template tag, then adding the language in settings.LANGUAGES is enough. Otherwise you have to fiddle with django.conf.locale.LANG_INFO (which we didn't do because a language switcher can be made with settings.LANGUAGES only).
