Hi all, We are happy to share with you the upcoming 1st International Congress on Democratic Digital Education and Open Edtech. It will take place in Barcelona, Spain on 12-13-14 July 2022 and it is organised by Xnet, University of Barcelona, Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN), and the postgraduate course on Technopolitics and Rights in the Digital Era (University of Barcelona). Simultaneous translation of panels and presentations will be provided in Catalan, Spanish, and English.
This event is organised as part of the Plan for the Democratic Digitalisation of Education that Xnet created back in 2019. This plan included, among other things, the development of an agile digital education infrastructure based on widely consolidated and robust auditable code. The tool, called DD, has a pilot that is already running in several schools in Barcelona and is growing rapidly. This congress aims, firstly, to analyse how the digital world is being addressed in education from various perspectives and, secondly, to propose concrete corrective solutions, some of which will be implemented live and in real time. [1] One of the interesting sessions is “First was the code: digital rights, auditing, interoperability in education. DD Free Software, a tool as part of an ecosystem" which will take place on 13 July 2022 from 16:00 to 17:45 CEST. During this session, Xnet will present the DD Tool that has merged different consolidate Free Software tools for education. Then a representative of each of these tools will present her/his work: IsardVDI, 3point,Big Blue Button, Martin Dougiamas of Moodle, Etherpad, Maadix, and eXO. The Free Software Foundation Europe will take part in the session as well with the goal of sharing inputs regarding the importance of Free Software solutions in public services. On 14 July 2022 from 10:00 to 15:00 CEST the "International Devops Room around the DD Tool" will take place. This will be a technical session on the software and systems architecture used in the DD tool. If you are interested in contributing to the tool, don’t miss this session, as it will serve as well as a call to the talent of system developers and administrators around the world to contribute to the DD code for the Democratic Digitization of Education. This activity will be held in English.
