I understand that the SPAN/RSPAN support from physical switches does not have filtering support. It seems make sense when traffic mirroring implemented in physical switch hardware. Now with Open vSwitch, it might be better to support filtering on SPAN/RSPAN to reduce the monitoring traffic bandwidth. I do not have enough knowledge on the OVS design and implementation. So here are my questions for OVS experts, (1) Will filtering support to OVS port mirroring cause performance concern ? (2) Is anyone strongly against this idea ? If yes, will you mind to explain. (3) Is anyone interested to add this in OVS ? If someone will like to add it, will OVS accept it ? (4) Will any OVS expert like to give some high level idea about how hard this could be done ? Some high level design idea will be very helpful.
