I'm still parsing David's reply, but I have a suggestion that I floated by him offline, which may solve some problems...maybe.. :-)
Would you accept a patch to OVS which allowed a user to configure a single VLAN to which the in-band rules applied? Basically, instead of wildcarding the VLAN tag on all the in-band rules, it would optionally set them all to use the configured VLAN, and then the in-band rules wouldn't affect any traffic for other VLANs (even though it would previously have hit those rules). The default behaviour would still be the current behaviour, this would just be an additional knob for a user to tweak if they thought it would work better for them. -- Nick
