All,
I got the following details in the "config.log" file for the SSL error:

configure:5712: checking for SSL
configure:5720: $PKG_CONFIG --exists --print-errors "libssl"
Package libssl was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libssl.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libssl' found

However, the "libssl.pc" file is in the following locations on my system:

/usr/i686-pc-mingw32/sys-root/mingw/lib/pkgconfig/libssl.pc
/usr/lib64/pkgconfig/libssl.pc

And here is my current search path:

#echo $PKG_CONFIG_PATH

/usr/lib64/pkgconfig:/usr/i686-pc-mingw32/sys-root/mingw/lib/pkgconfig

However, I am still receiving the same errors.

Hi Sydney,

I also don't use fedora, but in my experiences with debian, I've found
that you can sometimes get the 'Cannot find libssl' error when you are
missing 'pkg-config'. With lenny I just do 'apt-get install pkg-config',
google tells me there are RPM versions out there as well. If you check in
config.log after a failed configuration you may be able to see clearer
explanations of what problems you are encountering.
