Just came across this -- I think folks here would enjoy it, even though it's apparently been out for a little over a year (and was officially posted by Google corporate):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRwPSFpLX8I Bon appetit. Their data center monitoring, management, feedback loop, and planning prowress is second to none (and is well known) but it's nice to actually get a closer look for most of us mere mortals. ;-) More than just 'an interesting look', there are some pretty good ideas that could be implemented in your own environment, even if not GOOG-sized. If curious, look at various other videos offered by Google corporate. The 'working at...' ones are interesting, IMO. The NYC subway-ish signs in a cafeteria made me smile. My favorite GOOG hiring story was when a fellow (whom I once met through a friend at another IT shop) had a 45 minute layover at a major airport somewhere while waiting for a connecting flight. He saw an internet kiosk and on a lark, decided to go to GOOG's online application webpage, filled it out, thinking it'd be a quick rejection. Made his flight and forgot all about it. A few days later, he got a phone call from the mothership, passed the initial phone screening, and completed further interviews. Hired! Doing well and has been enjoying working there for some time now, last I heard. (And before anyone asks, no, I don't work for GOOG and never have. GOOG doesn't pay me enough to be a professional shill. ;-) ) -Dan _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lopsa.org http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
