For a site I am working at, we're looking at NAS async replication across
continents (latency > 100 ms). We've just started looking at this, and are
right now looking at IBM SONAS, HP Ibrix, and Isilon.

The idea is:

* a file can be opened for writing on any of the NAS node.

* when a file is open for writing on one node, it is locked and becomes read
only on the other nodes (locking done by the NAS device/filesystem, not the
apps).

* replication is done as the file gets written, not afterwards.

* once the file is closed one the writing node, and replicated is complite
everywhere, the file is available for writing on all the nodes again.

Anybody has any experience with something like this?

Other vendors you can suggest?

Thanks.
