You could say that :) I'm an immigrant to Canada (originally from
Australa).

US & Canadian professionals have fairly good reciprocal work rights. This
Canadian govt site seems to cover the matter well:

As for looking for work. Based on my experiences of being in one country
and looking for work in another you won't get airtime with employers
unless your boots are on the ground, especially in the current economic
climate.

I recommend joining mailing lists for your preferred OS, etc to start
networking. I joined various lists a couple of years before I actually
hit the ground in Canada since permanent resident visas take a while to
process.

Once in Canada I'm not sure if you can convert the NAFTA visa to a
resident visa but I would if you can. After 3 years you can apply for
Canadian citizenship. Actually getting it occurs quite sometime after
that :)

When I arrived I found my excellent credit rating in my home country meant
nothing. This was quite a wake up call for a 30 year old :) I felt like
I was 18 years old again, at least as far as credit was concerned.

You will be able to convert your US driver's license straight over, I
understand.

Those are some random thoughts. If you have any specific questions I'd be
happy to answer them if I can.

Cheers,

Rob
