I have a question for the crowd. I've done a reasonable amount of hiring of SAs, but now we've got some spots open for DBAs. I've never done that, personally, and was wondering if anyone on this list had, and if so, what resources you used - job boards, mailing lists, forums, job fairs, etc. They're for mid-level people, so realistically going to a college recruiting office is not going to work. We're using DICE, and so far are seeing some traction (on the Oracle side) but even then, most of the candidates seem to be foreign workers looking for H1B's, and we're not offering those. We'd talk to recruiting firms, but we didn't get that approved in the budget (yet) so for now we're on our own and looking for cheap ways to hire. (If those all fail, we'll try again for recruiters, but they're really expensive here in NYC.)
So how do you all go about finding good (database) people? Thanks, Nicholas P.S. If more details help: they're 2 Oracle spots and a MySQL spot, and we're a small dot com type of company, with the pros and cons that come from that. I'm not sure what's allowed on the lists off the top of my head, so I won't post the job descriptions, but if anyone is interested, feel free to ping me and I can forward them along.
