Just in case anyone's keeping track, we've spoken to Isilon, BlueArc and Exanet. We're already familiar with NetApp and EMC.
It's interesting stuff, and from an R&D HPC perspective, the newer kids on the block are compelling. However, from a corporate enterprise NAS perspective, it's looking more and more like the big boys (NetApp and EMC) are the clear winners. While the performance game may go to the other three, I was surprised to see a slide from Exanet that put NetApp second in terms of performance (note: not *price/performance* :) ). The enterprise features just aren't there for the new guys. We're asking about things like: snapshot cloning/writable snaps WORM/compliance locking integration with tools like Oracle backups, Exchange, and VMWare VCB Even global support seems to be a bit of a challenge, depending on how global we're talking. We're still hashing things out. Thankfully, the company is more than willing to deal with multiple vendors to ensure that the project is matched to the appropriate storage vendor. Our biggest problem with NetApp, besides the expense, is the lack of scalability and global namespace, which is a real shame. -Adam _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lopsa.org http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
