Depends, what are your goals?

I'm a sysadmin-turned-security admin. I was once preparing to take the CISSP but
then my job led me away from security and I never went back to pick up the
CISSP. I'm not currently holding any certifications actually.

Generally speaking, IMHO, having a CISSP can't hurt. Having it will help you
break out of HR resume stacks. However, I have observed that holding a CISSP
does not translate into any particular excellence technically, though it does
help with your vocabulary, so you can speak to other security folks with less
confusion.

If you're looking for technical certifications, consider the SANS GIAC certs.
