Beyond membership, perhaps talking with local chapters and encouraging them to organize Sys Admin Appreciation day events.
Re: gift memberships. I could see a company buying memberships for all its sysadmins for SAD (horrible acronym for an awesome day), but I would have to agree with rackow, I think at the end of the year, many people would just let it lapse.
