List,
I need to be able to verify the integrity of data on a backup tape written by Backup Exec 11d (yes, I know this is an old rev). The data is encrypted and should be inaccessible to anyone without the appropriate key's passphrase. However, I have reason to believe that the media has been compromised in transit from my office to my offsite vendor. I am aware that Backup Exec can write checksums to the media but I'm going to assume those checksums are hostile if someone could access the tape and overwrite them, unless of course, those are encrypted as well. Symantec's documentation (online and off) is sparse on the subject and their support process abysmal (we're still on hold trying to submit a case). Does anyone on the list know the following: 1. Does Backup Exec store the data checksums independent of the media (i.e. on the media host)? 2. If yes to #1, is there a method to compare the data on the media against the independent checksums to ascertain the integrity of the tape? 3. This may be moot if the checksums are encrypted as well; are they? Thanks, Ryan
