I can see how you might believe this, but I'm not sure it is grounded in fact or experience. In fact, look at where we ended up: - Oracle pulled all resources from the project. - TdF did not obtain the trademark or the openoffice.org domain. - The community ended up fractured. Regardless of who's "fault" this is, had the discussions been done in public and involved all of the community instead of a select group, the results might have been different.
