Dear Mailing List, advertising something here is a bit out of style for me, but considering this is really the right crowd, and CEL has really been the right place for PhDs in the communications field in the past:
We're looking for people to employ; help us do interesting science and develop awesome technology! Advance the state of the art in reliable and robust communications in fields like Industry 4.0, high-rate optical or diverse wireless communications; design of new transmission schemes are just as much our scope as the application of machine learning to problems like synchronization and equalization. We're looking for people afraid of neither a bit of math, nor of sooner or later standing in front of a crowd of students, assisting in the teaching activities, partially done in German. You'd need a good background in communication theory, and at least some basic knowledge in information theory or channel coding. We, that being the Communications Engineering Lab [1] at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (which probably is best known for some guy called Hertz), are currently a small university institute in the Southwest of Germany. Thus, we'd need you to not only help us process raw students to convert them to excellent communications engineers, but also to publish and present yourself. That means you'd need some confidence in how to professionally deal with project partners, students, and faculty, but also in organizing your research, and finding the right questions to ask. This is a paid position, and the goal is that you graduate as a Dr.- Ing. (PhD). What we can offer is a young team with lots of freedoms, and a great level of individual support and scientific supervision. If you have any questions, I'll gladly answer any of them in any confidentiality you request. Should you want to apply, please do so directly to our head [2], Prof. Dr.-Ing. Laurent Schmalen, <schma...@kit.edu> . Best regards, Marcus [1] https://www.cel.kit.edu/ [2] https://www.cel.kit.edu/team_1667.php
