It's creating an object of type 'tune_request_t'. That's what the
argument type for set_center_freq() is, only that function will also
work with a double (and then create a tune_request for you).
I'm guessing you meant:
tr = uhd.tune_request(901e6, 1e3)
self.usrp.set_center_freq(tr)
