Hm, you just want to get started with cheap, "low-end" receivers: I'd really go for the rtl-sdr dongles. They can really be small, just sticking out of your USB port for about 5mm. I'm not aware of a similar device for the expresscard slot; if you want, build one yourself, by getting an old/cheap/broken expresscard, using some saw to cut out the formerly functioning part and disconnect all PCB traces from the expresscard connector, and soldering in one of the RTL dongles, connected to the USB lines of the expresscard connector.
