Just to rule out a problem, are you trying to run both Tx and Rx concurrently using a single USRP1 connected to a single computer? If so, you need to specify the same .rbf file for both the Tx and Rx sides, otherwise the last one opened stomps on the first one opened when it reloads the FPGA with the "other" .rbf image.
