Seems the wrong version of something like automake.

Have you checked that all your _used_ auto-tools are at the same or higher version as specified in the README file?

Often systems have more than one version of say automake installed, and you can configure via a distribution-specific tool which one to use or you can use environment variable to select the right one.

If unsure, send us the output of 'automake --version'.
