That seems to have fixed the problem; I took the two antennas and linked them end-to-end and all of a sudden the scope reflects a change with and without the antennas connected. Thanks so much!
What kind of wire is best? Are we talking just a meter-long length of bare copper wire? We have some wires laying around the lab, but they're shielded and don't work very well.
