I've read about the recent shift in g-i to use xorg, because the DirectFB backend is unmaintained. Please let the people know that I'm taking care of this within a few days, making GTK+ on DirectFB work again flawlessly, allowing you to stay with the simple package setup and plain vesafb for example. Also in the future, DirectFB and the GDK backend will stay maintained.
