Hey - thanks your help! DirectFB seems to be broken in versions 2.17.1 - 2.17.11 && 2.18.0 - 2.18.2 (some don't even compile, some have the runtime-errors mentioned below).
However, it's working with 2.7.10 and I'm quite happy with that! Will scroll through the version history later to see what changed - maybe it's not that hard to track down the changes/issues and fix dfb-support in a more recent version. I did some benchmarking on my two embedded devices with display (Openmoko GTA02 and Ben NanoNote) - and - I'm really impressed! On my Openmoko GTA02 "Freerunner" GTK2 on DirectFB seems to be quite twice as fast as running GTK2 on top of Xorg. It's even running really usable on my Ben NanoNote (32 MB RAM). I wrote a blog post with some more details about my testing environment and benchmark results - in case anybody is interested: http://nanl.de/blog/2009/10/gtk2-running-on-top-of-directfb-on-openwrt/ Thanks a lot for your great work - I'm really impressed!
