As I have not really followed the current status of your changes against
the current GTK+ trunk, but I spent a few hours trying to see how I
could Release() all DirectFB resources on the exit of the GTK+
main loop.  And I have been unable to produce any result except that
noticing that the X11 port have _dispose() and _finalize() method for
GdkX11Display which GdkDFBDisplay lacks.

Without proper release of DirectFB resources, one gets at least 5
different lines of warnings when the application exits which is not
exactly good looking.  The situation is even worse when the
GTK+ main loop is started by a dynamic plugin that is unloaded, as it
results in an obvious segfault.
