I guess, you will have to be patient while a volunteer gets around to taking on fixing this. meanwhile you will have to make do with work arounds like the printing to pdf idea.
You will catch more flies with honey than vinegar. This being open source, the reason there are any features at all is because the people using Dia and writing the code actually needed the features. Apparently, you are the first person getting aroused about this particular feature. Please be nice and you will get a better reaction from the people you are begging to help you.
