You must be unfamiliar with open source software development - that is to
say, voluntary development.

You should be grateful there is any software at all because you have paid
nothing, and you have contributed nothing (except a bad odor at this point).

In answer to your question, there are no line labels because of
the thousands of people who use it and write the the code, not a one felt
this was an important enough feature (compared to others) to write it in to
the system.  You can, if you like, position a bit of text over a line any
time you like.  So there is a dependable workaround.

There are two ways to get a new feature, write it yourself, or make good
case for it.  The second requires intelligence, politeness, a persuasive
nature, and perhaps a sense of humor.  You might go for the first since all
the characteristics of the second may be unavailable to you.
