So the procedure is this: 1) Create your line 2) Create a text object and when you finish editing you should see the connector on the bottom left corner of the text. 3) Click on the connector (will not work if you drag the text itself, only drag by the connector) 4) Connect the text to the middle of the line (should turn red to connect).
