Paul, It has been 5 years since I used MySQL , but I know some general things about it. You can drop back to earlier versions if you need to. I started out using v4 and I found to be quite fast for numeric data. You could throw a million numbers in and out of it with no problem. If the 2 core 1.6GHz W7 etc. limits are really important then an earlier version would be a solution.
For decades MySQL has been a back bone of the web. It is very capable. I never got much help from the "community," but it was simple enough for my novice needs.
