Hello! Thanks for the speedy reply!

Yes, I guess that keeping the images in the same folder as the Dia file will
work fine in most cases. However, the problem with uploading Dia files to a
Wiki cannot be solved in this way I think (as I have no control over where the
image files are placed).

So, uploading Dia files with images to a Wiki does not really work (you need to
render a PNG manually and then upload the PNG instead of the Dia file). As
mentioned this works very well with other Dia files.

I think you will just have to keep the image files together with the Dia file.
If you develop the discipline of making a project folder; or, even more
granular, individual Dia folders, there is no problem.

I am not unsympathetic, I would like to have images embedded, too. But it is
an old complaint of may different programs. I do CAD with Solidworks and many
part files congregate into an assembly. I just have to keep them together or
it does not work. I will note that Solidworks has a Journal function that is
an MS Word doc where I can place all manner of embedded information.

Hi,

I have question regarding Dia and images. I have noticed that images (inserted
on a diagram with Basic Objects: Image) are not embedded in the Dia-file.
Checking the XML code generated by Dia I can see that Dia only refers to images
file via absolute or relative file paths.

This leads to problems in some situations. The image files are not always
reachable and Dia just shows a big red cross instead of the images. I have for
instance uploaded Dia-files to my Wiki (which have Dia-support added). In
general this works excellent as the Wiki automatically renders PNG-files from
the diagram file that are presented in the (web) pages. However, when uploading
Dia diagrams with images, the images does not show up (since they are not
reachable from the Dia making the PNG-files).

Any way around this (can images be embedded in the Dia-file for instance)?
